This provides a degree of security for employees who have suffered long-term sickness or accident. Lump sums are payable for:

• Permanent total disability, if an employee becomes permanently and totally disabled from gainful employment

• Accidental dismemberment, in the event of loss by accidental means of a limb or sight

• Index benefits, in the event of a loss by accidental means of fingers, thumbs or toes.
